Frequently asked questions
The cleaners insurance that you need depends on the type of business you operate and whether or not you employ anyone or have others work for you.
If you work alone or as a partnership or you operate as a Ltd company that has only one director and you don’t employ anyone or have others work for you on a self employed basis then you should look to arrange Public Liability Insurance. Whilst you are not legally required to arrange this cover you may be contractually required to do so by your customers or any company you sub contract for. It can also be a low cost to pay for peace of mind should a claim arise against you.
If you operate a company (no matter what type) that has other people doing work for your company, whether they are employed or self employed, full or part time, then you are legally required to arrange Employers Liability Insurance . This cover can only be bought along with Public Liability Insurance as part of a Combined Cleaners Insurance Liability policy.
Public liability insurance covers the cost of claims made by members of the public for incidents that occur in connection with your business activities.
Employers’ liability insurance will enable you to meet the cost of compensation for your employees’ injuries or illness whether caused on or off site.
If your insurance policy isn’t tailor made for cleaners, then there is a good chance this might be excluded and you’d have to pay for damages yourself.
